How Therapy Works —

A Collaborative, Compassionate Approach

Therapy is a space to slow down, feel what’s real, and reconnect with yourself. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start. We begin wherever you are.

What You Can Expect

Therapy with me isn’t about “fixing” what’s wrong—it’s about honoring what you’ve been carrying and giving you space to process it with care.

You can expect:
• A calm, judgment-free environment where you can exhale
• Culturally responsive care that respects your full identity
• Tools for managing anxiety, burnout, and perfectionism
• A pace and process that feel right to you

Practical Details

I offer in-person therapy in Bethesda and virtual sessions across Maryland, in English or Spanish.

  • Where: in person in Bethesda, or virtually anywhere in Maryland.

  • Sessions: typically 45 minutes, usually weekly to start, then adjusted together.

  • Investment: $185 per session. I am an out-of-network provider, so you pay directly and can request a monthly superbill for possible insurance reimbursement. A Good Faith Estimate is available.

  • Background: MS in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in Maryland and National Certified Counselor (NCC), under the clinical supervision of Kristen Custer, LCPC. Member of The Menopause Society and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA).

Is Clarity Within the right fit for you?

If you have read this far, something is probably resonating. The quieter question is usually: is this the right person, and what would it actually involve.

I work with women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond who look capable from the outside and feel stretched thin underneath. Anxiety, burnout, sleep that stopped working, caregiving load, the sense of not quite feeling like yourself. Often several at once, often during perimenopause or menopause, and rarely traceable to a single cause.

Colleagues describe the work this way too. Dr. Emma Basch, PsyD, calls Alexis "one of my go-to referrals" for women's mental health. You can also hear how I think about this work in my interview with Menopause Made Modern.

You do not need to have it figured out before we talk. The best next step is a free 15-minute consultation, a short call to see whether we are a good fit and to answer your questions. No pressure, and no obligation to continue.
